Getting The Best Drawing Chair

A comfortable drawing chair is essential if you spend a long period of time drawing in a studio.Chairs that you use for drawing is best to have cushion for added support to avoid experiencing discomfort and pains by the time you are done with your artwork.
Having a good back support is also another aspect that you need to look into when choosing a chair, so that you will be able to lean back and stretch your arms. Also make sure that the height of the chair is easily adjustable and have wheels attached to enable mobility while you sit and draw without doing damage to the floor.Drafting chairs offer excellent comfort and provide good posture when you draw, but they can be a bit expensive.Fortunately, options are available in furniture store for drafting chairs and at a fairly reasonable price too.

A Side Table That Helps

A good side table is a great help. Side tables can be used to place your drawing materials, snacks or even drinks without disturbing your drawing table area. When choosing a side table, it should be about the height of your waist when seated in a drawing chair. It should also be put about an arms reach away from the drawing table.Like the drawing chair, it is best to have wheels attached at the bottom end of the side table to allow free movement and can be easily moved away when not in use.

Safe Storage

Over a period of time you will notice that your drawing starts to accumulate quickly, especially sketches .This is true if you are really active in drawing.Keeping your artwork in boxes or folders is the best and often cheap way to ensure that your artworks are safe.Remember to look for “acid free” label on the boxes or if you are using cardboard folder.Even if you are using “acid free” paper for your drawings, if your boxes or folders are not “acid free” the edges of the papers kept inside will still turn yellow.Labeling the boxes and folder also helps to sort out and make it easy for you to make references in the future.

For added safety measures, you can wrap the boxes with plastic wraps to ensure that any contact with water will not damage anything inside.

What Comes In Handy. (Additional/Optional stuff)

Here are some of the things that might come in handy if any unwanted situation presents itself -like having drinks spilled around (happens more often than you think)

Paper towels or baby wipes – Spills can happen a lot during drawing sessions, especially if you are working with wet mediums. With that, having paper towels nearby can be helpful should any spills happen.

Art bin – A great way to have your pencils, erasers or other materials ready for use is to have an art bin.An art bin is usually a tray with different sized compartments inside suitable to store your drawing materials.

Side trays – Though not as solid as a side table, a side tray is a favorable substitute. It is a large, compartmentalized tray that you can use to put whatever you want from your draw materials to music player, snacks and even drinks.Side trays can also be attached to your drawing table but most are only available online.

Music player – A lot of artist finds that listening to music helps them focus even more on their drawing but it is best to use a headset or setting the volumes low if you are listening at your studio/workplace while drawing as blaring it out loud can instead make you lose concentration and disturb others in the area.

Snack/Drinks – Snacks are can be considered optional…well, not really. Having something to munch is a great way of giving you a bit of energy while drawing.Avoid greasy snacks like potato chips and keeping them in a jar or container is recommended so that it does not mess up your workplace. Snacks are best kept simple and most of the time in small portions.

Water on the other hand is a must, especially if you like spending hours a day drawing.Drinking water also helps you increase your mental productivity at the same time provides the necessary fluid to sustain your body.

Computer and Scanners – The computer needed for this must not necessarily be a high end, hardcore gaming computer. As long as the computer has all the basics set (keyboard & mouse) and can run programs like Adobe Photoshop and the likes, then it is good enough for any editing, printing or scanning that needs to be done.

For scanner, it is best to choose a scanner that is able to scan the size of the paper that you usually use.Any conventional scanner can do the work but if you like to draw on larger paper, it is best to use a single flatbed scanner or bring it over to a photo store to have it scanned.

Printer – when purchasing a printer,it is advisable that you choose a printer that can print quality images on a variety of paper surfaces .Although printers capable of doing the tasks are expensive in both the price and its maintenance, its usage can benefit you more in return. If you are making digital prints of what you draw and sell it or show it to customers afterwards, you are actually saving up a lot more when compared to acquiring professional digital services that charge for each process.

Digital Tablet – Digital tablets are a bit pricey, and should only be considered if you are seriously planning to get into digital artwork or creating your very own webcomic online.Digital tablets are digital drawing boards, that connects to the computer enabling traditional drawing method on a digital format. Many digital comic artist are using the software Adobe Photoshop for their digital works and Wacom manufactures some of the best digital drawing tablets/tools in the world.

If you are unsure of which setting or environments that suits you best, you might want to try asking other artist or art teachers on their drawing habit and environments.Afterwards, you can try to implement them in your drawing routine and change it to your preference.
